The client needed to integrate a crypto stack and hardware security module (HSM) into an existing battery-management ECU in just four months, to automotive-grade security and standards compliance - without compromising performance, reliability or compatibility. It meant coordinating firmware, the HSM vendor and OEM security, working around limited early production hardware, and carrying the heavy testing and certification load required for ISO 21434.
We configured the HSM and crypto stack for the target MCU and the full battery-management ECU, integrating secure boot and key management for trusted execution and updates. We developed cryptographic communication modules to protect in-vehicle data exchange, and implemented end-to-end encryption and authentication for CAN and diagnostics. First functionality - secure diagnostics - landed in four months, with feature-complete delivery at twelve.
A 5-member team over a 12-month engagement - two crypto experts, one system engineer and two QA engineers - working an Agile-V hybrid (Agile sprints aligned to the automotive V-Model) with incremental security integration.
